Copy-editing

An agent once told me that every sentence must earn its place in a paragraph and every word must earn its place in a sentence.

Copy-editing is a thorough review of your manuscript to correct typographical and grammatical errors, and identify and fix confusing sentences or paragraphs. It’s done on a line-by-line basis where various aspects of your work are assessed, such as the clarity of sentences, the length of sentences and whether they are too complicated, and whether a paragraph can be expressed more clearly or concisely.

In copy-editing, I will make corrections to the manuscript by ‘track changes’ in Word that you can then accept or reject. If there is any uncertainty, I will make suggestions to you electronically in the margin of the document. The corrected manuscript will be returned to you by email.

Copy-editing Fees:

£5 per thousand words (word count is based on the word count estimated by Word). As an example, the fee for a 60,000 word manuscript would be £300.
